Requirements for Certification:

1. Attend the McDoula skills workshop (offerd in the Spring and Fall)

2. Read and complete the McDoula certification doula manual (provided during the Skills Workshop)

3. Read the books and videos on the Reading & Viewing list (included in the doula manual)

4. McDoula mission statement- understand and agree

5. Support 2 women during birth and provide evaluation form from mother

6. Complete and pass the assignments in the manual on logistics, communication & confidentiality, physiology of labor & birth and understanding the local community needs.

7. Watch the required Breastfeeding Powerpoint and pass the breastfeeding quiz.

Certification Includes:

1. Training workshop taught by Gaylea McDougal, CPM-TN and another highly experienced doula

2. (MCD) credential: “McDoula Certified Doula”- the name “mcdoula” has become a trusted name for doula services in the middle Tennessee community with families and providers. This credential will carry credibility for your doula practice.

3. Mentorship with Gaylea McDougal (face to face meetings, phone conversations and feedback on births and various documents).

4. Assistance with creating client contracts and birth plan templates.

5. Conflict resolution assistance and advice

6. Exclusive client referrals by Gaylea and through the McDoula website

7. Access to the closed FB page exclusive to McDoula members and instructors only (behind the scenes info about hospitals and providers as well as business advice and resources for your practice).

Registration for the Skills Workshop (Spring 2018) is open for prospective doulas seeking certification (i.e. "Complete McDoula Certification Package"). The Skills Workshop will be held on the first Saturday in March at the Roots Collaborative Care offices in Goodlettsville, TN. This is the first step required for certification. If you are not pursuing certification you may choose the items you need from the "A La Carte" section. We will only be taking 10 registrants for the Skills Workshop so space is extremely limited and likely to fill up fast. You may either pay the full amount for certification (600.00), make a deposit toward the cost of the workshop only (400.00) or pay your balance (200.00 due one week prior to workshop date).
